On Wednesday I took a short trip to the zoo with my mom and my sister. It is an extremely small zoo that is probably meant more for toddlers, but hey, I'm an animal lover and soon to be vet tech and I can go to the zoo if I want!
We saw a variety of animals:
We saw a variety of animals:
We literally got through the whole zoo in less than an hour and went back to animals that we couldn't see well to see if they came out of hiding. My sister, who LOVES llamas and alpacas, got to feed and pet an alpaca, so her day was pretty much made!

The other day, I tried out a new recipe. I made creamy avocado pasta, a recipe I found on pinterest. It was super easy to make and I made some of my own modifications that worked out ok, but not great. I would make it again but with different mods.
Here's the recipe:
2 avocadoes
1/2 cup basil
1 cup cherry tomatoes
1/2 cup corn
2 cloves garlic
2 tbsp lemon juice
12 oz pasta
1/3 cup olive oil
salt and pepper to taste
1. Boil the pasta. This was my first modification. I used black bean pasta instead of normal pasta, which was a bit too soft I think. It was good the first day but turned to moosh the next day.
2. Blend up the avocado, olive oil, lemon juice, basil, salt and pepper in a food processor or blender.
3. When the pasta is done, drain it and add the avocado mixture and mix. Then add the corn and tomatoes and whatever else you want to add. I added mushrooms and chickpeas for a little bit more protein.
This makes a good side dish or if you want to add a source of protein like salmon, shrimp, chicken, or beef it can be a main dish!
Try it and let me know what you think!

I have been doing a 4 week booty blast challenge from Tina at Carrots N Cake. I am loving it! It is just 5 days a week of 5 minutes of booty work. I add it on to my other stuff but on days I don't have strength, I like to quickly do it after a run! It burns but it is not excessively long!
I finished week 1 today and this is what I did:
Sunday Day 1:
8 rounds of 20 seconds with 10 seconds of rest
Alternating jumping lunges
Glute bridges and repeat x3
Then...
1 minute of squat jumps
Monday Day 2:
25 donkey kicks right leg
25 donkey kicks left leg
25 fire hydrants right leg
25 fire hydrants left leg
Repeat
Tuesday Day 3:
1 minute Bulgarian split squats right leg
1 minute Bulgarian split squats left leg
1 minute Bulgarian split squats right leg
1 minute Bulgarian split squats left leg
1 minute alternating curtsy lunges
Wednesday Day 4:
12 single leg Romanian dead lifts (6, right, 6 left)
20 flutter kicks
Every minute on the minute for 5 minutes
Saturday Day 5:
12 squats
12 alternating curtsy lunges
12 squats with alternating kickback
As many reps as possible (AMRAP)

FINALLY>>>>>>>
This week, I decided to go vegetarian!! I have been super sick of meat lately and needed to change it up.
I am not saying that I am going vegetarian forever, because I do still like meat, but who knows, maybe I'll continue a bit longer. I am thinking I may go vegetarian 5 out of 7 days a week and eat meat 2 days or maybe only eat meat 1 day. This is good for your body, the planet, and animals. I am not at all against people eating meat, just like I'm not at all against people being vegan! You do what you want, and it's none of my business! Whatever decision you make is great!
Have a great Saturday night and Sunday. Get some good runs in, eat some good food, and relax!
With love, animals, and running
Rachel
