You know when you have an injury and then once you heal every little pain makes you feel like you're going to get injured again? That's where I'm at right now... 7 months ago I was out with a tibial stress fracture for about 8 weeks. Now, every time I get a pain in my tibia area, I fear it will be another full blown stress fracture.
So, what's a girl to do? Well, I am going to take it easy for the next couple of days. I have a race on Sunday that I still really want to run, so I'm going to see where I am on Saturday night in regards to that. But for the rest of the week, I will use the elliptical or arc trainer, I will avoid heavy leg lifting, and I will pull out the old road bike and do some good quality cycling. I will also ice, massage, foam roll, etc.
And to make matters worse, my energy levels are still super low. I feel fatigued after 2 miles, and it is really frustrating. How do I got from having a killer 8 mile speed workout to not being able to run more than 3 miles without absolutely dying? I am going to get my blood taken to make sure I don't have anemia, and I also think I should get my thyroid checked after reading about symptoms related to thyroid disease and other issues.
Now that I've vented to you guys about how horrible my week is going, I am going to stay strong. I am not going to kick myself because of this. Maybe, just MAYBE, this is God's way of saying, "Hey, Rachel, take a step back. You are pushing it too much and your body needs a rest." So, I am going to listen to God and take a step back... I am thinking that even if I do run this race Sunday, I am going to take a week or two off from running regardless and rest my body from the pounding of running. I hate not running, but sometimes it's necessary!
